INTERVIEW FOR
Total Health: Nina Verkoeyen On How We Can Optimize Our Mental, Physical, Emotional, & Spiritual Wellbeing
"I don’t believe in mistakes. There are no such things. Everything is an experience we as the Creator create for ourselves. All obstacles, problems, crises, or situations we call mistakes, are designed by us for us to show us what needs to be addressed, reminded of, or healed. They’re not mistakes, but guiding lights to where we need to go."
Often when we refer to wellness, we assume that we are talking about physical wellbeing. But one can be physically very healthy but still be unwell, emotionally or mentally. What are the steps we can take to cultivate optimal wellness in all areas of our life; to develop Mental, Physical, Emotional, & Spiritual Wellbeing?
As a part of our series about “How We Can Cultivate Our Mental, Physical, Emotional, & Spiritual Wellbeing”, I had the pleasure of interviewing Nina Verkoeyen, a spiritual leader and the founder of Meta Spirituality — an emerging spiritual tradition that supersedes the old “New Age” spirituality.
Nina has been teaching spirituality, meditation, and yoga for more than 15 years, and authored several books, with her major work “The Last Truth” currently being republished for the American audience.
“The Last Truth” is a set of lectures regarding the meta spiritual relationship between God and human. It has granted enlightenment to thousands of dedicated listeners.

— Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series! Before we dive into the main focus of our interview, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you tell us a bit about your childhood backstory?
— My childhood was pretty regular, but what was different is that my mom had books on astrology, psychology, spirituality — and from an early age I indirectly absorbed the belief that there is an invisible aspect of our world that we can interact with and have an influence on.
Another memorable childhood story happened when I was 11. My mom came home from a spiritual meeting where she was taught how to meditate and was given her own personal mantra for meditation. I have never heard those words before. Neither had my mom. So when mom got home she announced that she was given a mantra and was going to meditate, so I shouldn’t disturb her. I asked her to give me a mantra too, so that I could also meditate, but she said it was prohibited to share personal mantras. I got very upset. So I picked the first word that came to my mind and also started to meditate alone in my room, repeating this word. And after several minutes of focused concentration on that word, something strange happened. I teleported into another realm. I discovered what meditation is. And that was my first introduction to the understanding that has since followed me all of my life — there is no power in outer world rituals and artifacts, the power is in us and in our intention. We are the creators. We can use any word we choose and it will work as long as we have intention. When my mom came out of her room and said her meditation wasn’t successful — I told her mine was and that she needed to pick a word of her own choice, instead of the word given to her.
Since then, I have created dozens of methods for mind transformation that have helped people but the main idea of my teachings has always been the same: the teacher is within, and the main goal of a master is to let the student become their own inner teacher.
— What or who inspired you to pursue your career?
None of us can achieve success without some help along the way. Was there a particular person who you felt gave you the most help or encouragement to be who you are today? Can you share a story about that?
— You will soon realize that my early life stories are not stories of success — they are stories of adversity, of lack, of me not being able to find something or someone. Because of that, I’ve had to find and develop it within myself. I never had an inspiring role model or mentor or teacher — even though I was always looking for one, no one fully satisfied my always seeking mind — and I had no other choice than to go within.
So outer inspiration has never been important to me. I learned to tap within and be inspired by myself and my inner world.
When I was into yoga I couldn’t find information on energetics and subtle knowledge. So I had to go within, find the knowledge within myself, and write a book about it. When I couldn’t find satisfaction in any spiritual practice or religion during my life-long spiritual journey and psychological studies (I have a degree in psychology), I had to go within again and discover The Last Truth on spirituality, the missing puzzle piece that I couldn’t find anywhere else. This is what finally brought me enlightenment and self realization — and this is what has brought the same to thousands of my students now.
We have all the answers within. We have the whole universe within. And it’s my life's mission to make as many people in this world realize it as possible.
— Can you share the funniest or most interesting mistake that occurred to you in the course of your career? What lesson or take away did you learn from that?
— I don’t believe in mistakes. There are no such things. Everything is an experience we as the Creator create for ourselves. All obstacles, problems, crises, or situations we call mistakes, are designed by us for us to show us what needs to be addressed, reminded of, or healed. They’re not mistakes, but guiding lights to where we need to go.
— What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects that you are working on now? How do you think they might help people?
— For the last six years, since my awakening, I have been working on one project: to bring The Last Truth to the world. I’m now spreading it under the name Meta Spirituality — a spiritual tradition I’ve founded. Meta Spirituality is an expanded and upgraded version of the common “new age” spirituality, which has now become “old age” spirituality.
Meta Spirituality’s main goal is to make you develop a direct relationship with the Creator, that is you — without any intermediaries or tools of old spirituality — such as affirmations, channeling, visualization, and belief in higher forces that don’t encourage realization of The Last Truth: that you are the creator and the world is a reflection of you.
— Let’s shift to the core focus of our interview. In this interview series we’d like to discuss how to cultivate wellness habits in four areas of our lives: mental wellness, physical wellness, emotional wellness, & spiritual wellness. Let’s dive deeper into these together. Based on your research and experience, can you share with our readers three good habits that can lead to optimum mental wellness?
— I don’t separate spiritual, emotional, mental, physical wellness. They are one and interconnected, and they’re all being affected by the same so-called “habits”.
I will share one main habit to adopt: correct self-perception. Make a habit of self- identifying with the creator that is us, instead of identifying with a separate identity of the ego self.
If we change our self identification, we change the root cause of all problems, and start seeing life through the eyes of the creator and unity. This in turn creates life in unity that is harmonious and positive. The way we see things is the way we create them. The observer affects the observable through the act of observing. The process of perception is the process of the creation of reality. Another, better world is this world seen differently, through the eyes of unity. Simply bringing new habits without changing the core identity of who you are is not enough to radically change your life for better. We need to eliminate the root cause of all suffering and all problems — our self-identification with separate ego-mind. If that one thing is accomplished, everything else and every area of your life will be naturally and effortlessly improved.
— Do you have any particular thoughts about how being “in nature” can help us cultivate spiritual wellness?
— Being in nature gives us an opportunity to be less distracted by the noise of the environment and hear the voice within more clearly. But again, it’s not nature that does this to us — it is us who can more easily do it for ourselves while in nature. We can tune in to our true self faster if we are given a chance to not be distracted by the noisy external environment of an urban living.
— Ok, we are nearly done. You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good for the greatest number of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger.
— My Meta Spirituality community of several hundred thousand people all over the world is already a big spiritual movement. Its mission is to affect the consciousness of millions of people and cause a collective graduation from living in the partial truth and fragmented knowledge of old spirituality.
— We are very blessed that some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US, whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this, especially if we both tag them :-)
— Oprah. Because we are neighbors. :) And because she’s had conversations with all of the main spiritual leaders of our time. The Last Truth of Meta Spirituality could be the final puzzle piece that many of her viewers — and she herself, as a serious spiritual devotee — are looking for and would greatly benefit from.
